1) When describing a scene, try to use all five senses
2) Give all characters proper motivation to achieve their goals
3) Characters' dialog shouldn't all sound the same
4) Avoid clichés
5) put all your characters in a different scenario-if you don't know how they'd act in a forest fire, they aren't good characters
